BANKS AND CURRENCY
The official currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF). Major credit cards like Master, Visa and American Express are acceptable in most shopping centres and hotels. Major foreign currencies can be changed to Swiss Francs at the airport or hotels.

Electricity in Switzerland is 230 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second. If you travel to Switzerland with a device that does not accept 230 Volts at 50 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter.

LANGUAGE
In Fribourg the two official languages are French and German. Switzerland has 4 national languages: German, French, Italian and Rumantsch. English is generally spoken in tourist areas.

SHOPS
Shops opening hours are 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 or 7 p.m. from Monday to Wednesday and on Friday. Thursdays from 8.30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday shops are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday, December 8th is an official Holiday. Shops will be closed in Fribourg.

TIPPING
Tipping or gratuities are common in most sectors of Swiss life: usually around 10%.
